BTW, is there any really reason Bullpup designs have the sight placed so high?

Because your eyes aren't on the side of your head. When you aim, you aim down the sights with your cheek on the stock. Bullpups and the gun's mechanisms inside the stock, so the stock is higher than the barrel. To compensate that, the sights have to be higher too.
