What, exactly, is going on in this image?
Also, is that "patchouli" as in that smelly stuff hippies used to wear?

Patchouli Knowledge is a character from Touhou Project, which is a series of vertical-scrolling shoot-em-up games.

Patchouli is a type of plant and the oil that's made from the plant.

From my guess, she's floating in mid-air, and we're looking at two levels of a library...

Or it's a very nice reflective floor.

it's two levels. a reflection would require it to be the same (see: lack of fence on lower floor)

Rather odd angle. Wonder if she was just added and the library is an image from elsewhere?

I don't think that she was added. To me it seems that she was intended to be there, but I do see what IchiMashi is refering to by that her image does seem to spring out , but I think that was done to give it depth.

I think she was reading and fell off. To much into her reading to notice.

Her hair was the give away for me. It is not straight down, so she is not floating. It is not against her back, so she was not added to the library. And her hair is at a lower 45 degree angle giving the impression that it is pushed up and out, to show her falling.

No, she levitates. See post #121299 and post #63810

I know I have other pictures of her floating in a library. If I find them I'll upload them.

I love how this coloring style gives volume to her clothes and hair.
