Are the first two movies notably different from anime series in some parts, or can I skip them and move on to the last immediately?
You can skip them, they are basically recaps (with some more architecture porn, less meduka moments and - in my opinion - worse atmosphere than the series (which used its music better than the two movies - my opinion again)).
