Well, it's made of metal, whereas the bat's made of wood, so it presumably has a stronger, more vicious impact. And for an oni, the heavier the weapon, the better.

I think only the spikes are metal. The rest of the club looks wooden.

An oni's metal club is also called a tetsubou which is a type of spiked_club. It's generally made out of metal, but it is wooden there is an heavy iron bar as a foundation for the club.
