A misunderstanding between Damcon (DAMage CONtrol crew) and "dame"con (see panel 2).

The ship daughters got extra motivated since none of them want to be labeled "no good".

Also the tendency and urban legend that when you actually stack them on your ship girls, it is the time they do not get critically damaged. This is most noticeable when the only ship girl you do not have Damcon on is the only one that gets sent home.

Just a few months late, but...

They're getting technical victories. Combat in KanColle only goes for a couple rounds of shelling with different types of weapons, with an option to continue in night battles (which they avoided). This means they didn't sink anything, but they all got lucky enough to avoid anything but light damage, and they could disengage. Since they dealt more damage than they took, it's enough to count as a "technical victory", even though it was basically a draw.

Because the goal is just to get to the boss and have some kind of victory, they basically won just by not dying.

In other words, the destroyers were too weak to really stand up to all those battleships, but they managed to squeek out a victory by just evading or repairing all the incoming fire long enough that the game just declared them winners on a technicality.

As Homer Simpson said, after, "Homer, I guess that makes you the winner by default..." "Default? WOOHOO! The two sweetest words in the English language!"

It's actually tactical victory, and there are no midway repairs when running a map, they just avoided all damage
