This is how Akatsuki sank. During the first battle of Guadalcanal, she turned on her searchlight to illuminate the targets for the rest of the task force, initially USS Atlanta, but especially USS Portland, but became the first casualty because of it, as the US forces focused upon Akatsuki first, just being the easiest target to see. (Hiei also lit up her searchlights, and took a tremendous shelling, but being a much bigger ship against cruisers and destroyers, was much harder to sink. She was damaged enough to fail to retreat, and was forced to be scuttled the next day because of aerial bombardment, however.)

Akatsuki was notably probably sunk by USS Portland, but was soon after torpedoed down by either Inazuma or Ikazuchi, which lends itself well to "revenge" in terms of the sisterhood the shipgirls are portrayed as having.

She now has a kai ni with a searchlight equipped, reflecting her role in this battle.

It's been already translated. The note is at the upper left corner.

To those who always put back the "translation_request" tag, please look twice for the note when the "translated" tag is there.

Rather, if you suspect the translated tag is placed incorrectly, check the note history to make sure the notes arent already there or they werent accidentally removed.

Akatsuki, who was placed in the front line of the Japanese fleet. According to the night battle manual, Akatsuki shined her searchlight towards the American fleet. This light made her the target of the American fleet's concentrated fire. Within 15 minutes, Akatsuki disappeared into the sea Ironbottom Sound, November 12th 1942
