Whoa, I'm late to the party!
    It's flipping time!

EDIT: Saw the trailer... where's the flipping? I only see the items use.

Oh there's flipping all right. I'm pretty sure the fans are flipping their tables that

Aya is not going to be the camera girl in this game, and that they have to play as a former antagonist, who is a complete hax character, that can flip the bullet patterns to her advantage(and to our disadvantage). I have a feeling that this game is going to be default lunatic mode.

Oh also, the game is comming out on May 11th!

Nevermind that, this game looks like it will be really hard. Expecting lots of ragequits... which is exactly what Seija wants :V

What are you expecting when it's got impossible right in its name? Though (some of) the fights shown in the trailer look more Puzzle Boss like instead of simply lunatic patterns.

For the record, the trailer has been uploaded to Youtube here (skip to 2:02 if you don't understand the moonchitchat, like I did).

(Edit) It turns out that ZUN himself has uploaded the trailer. Watch it here.

But still, "Impossible Spell Card"? What the hell kind of name is that?

    Nevertheless, I'm still excited.

The idea seems to be that Seija takes on "impossible" spell cards by cheating her ass off with a collection of nine different magic items she's "acquired". So, yeah, things might look insane, but it probably has to be made harder given that you're playing the haxxor and get to break rules.

So instead of Shoot the Bullet, it's Cheat the Bullet?

I bet this game (both premise and gameplay) could work with Seiga as the main character too. They're both pretty wicked people, and Seiga has the ability to create holes and pass through stuff.

I wonder if we'll see others old bosses other than Yuyuko this time (the "forgotten" ones).

Yuuka? Well, third time's the charm, I guess...
In all seriousness, I doubt she'll make an appearance.

Keine appeared in the trailer too, though.

She might considering she only got what... two spell cards? Not to mention shes pretty powerful and the spellcards are well... impossible. My prediction many characters are going to reappear but there will be like two to four or so from each game missing. Maybe even a few midbosses will get some love. (maybe Lily because she was in Fairy Wars?)

Maybe he's going to do an HD Touhou game in the future. A game that kinda looks like the bullet hell games that look like super stardust HD, and that's made on the Unity engine. It would be nice to play that on my PC. I think Zun is trying really hard to put his games on Steam, but the only thing stoping him, is the language barriers, and the translation costs. I highly doubt that he'll sign on to a publisher to fund the translation, due to him loosing full creative control of his work. I would wish he used Kickstarter, or paypal, so we can actually help him with the funds for his future works.

I would absolutely buy Touhou games on steam, HD or not.
Indiegogo would probably be the best option for getting them on there.

Er... What gives you the idea that ZUN's trying to expand his audience?

ZUN said he intends to first sell his new game as a downloadable version overseas, and then eventually expand to all the old games.

So this game, Impossible Spell Card, could possibly be the first with a western release?

With how serious he's treated the issue before and how recently he's talking about it, with no indication that he's even decided how he would go about it, I doubt it. I think there are just too many hoops to jump through to make it happen that quickly. There are also pros and cons to doing it with this game in particular. Like, it'd probably be easier to test it out with a small game like this, but it would also be a poor introduction to core Touhou gameplay for new fans. That said most of the people who would buy these games are probably already Touhou fans. But like I said I think it's just too soon.

I think Zun is thinking about the Western fanbase, i just think that it will take a while for him to actually get the legal papers together, to actually get a official release over here. What we also have to keep in mind is the fact that Japanese indie devs operate at a completely different fashion that western indie devs. They basically see thier game development as a hobby, and for fun. They don't soley do it for the money. Zun did this just for shits, and giggle, becasue he didn't find any games that he liked. He's only now becomming huge, due to the internet, and sites like Youtube, and danbooru.

This might be the perfect time in right now for Zun to make a huge impression on the western gaming scene, becasue it's rapidly becomming bigger. Just look how many views his first YouTube video got, that's something that foreign game devs dream of having. He's also in a position right now to distribute his own games on his own, without a maijor pubisher backing him, or dictating his every move thanks to the internet.

But we have to keep in mind that Zun is doing this as a hobby, and like to experiment with his games. We should never pressure him to do anything, becasue it's his game, and his hobby. I respect Zun a lot, becasue he essentially has potential million dollar franchise on his belt, and that he's not giving it to any publisher, in fear of it turing into a souless cash cow. He clearly looks at Touhou as art, and wants it to say that way. He is quite honestly the most respectable dev in the entire indie gaming scene.

I'm just going to point out that Zun's preview video has twice the views of Ikaruga's Steam PV and that game was greenlit in a blink of an eye. And that's not counting the views on other channels who put that video.
