I made a little list of the most popular KanColle characters by number of appearances in Danbooru. (Just a simple tag count, but it's still a pretty decent indicator if you don't split hairs...)
Way, way out ahead in first place is Shimakaze. (She had all the art for a while, there.)
Then, you have Kongou and Kaga dueling for second.
Akagi's around sixth place or so.
Nagato's around 10th.
Yamato's actually not that popular, but it's understandable why she's there, anyway.
Yuudachi is way down in the middle of the pack.
Fubuki has gotten some popularity lately, but she's still way, way behind.
Mutsuki is practically a Hatsushimo-class "stealth ship" that only appears in "absolutely everyone" images...
Seems odd that they'd leave behind the fan favorites like Tenryuu and the 6th DesDiv. (Presumably, Kongou also represents fan-faves Haruna et al. that are also in her class...)
I suspect Fubuki is there only because of "Ganbare Fubuki-chan!" which I think is super lame.
Mutsuki is a wild card though. Could be Kadokawa just being random.
I can justify all the girls in this splash pic with the exception of Mutsuki.
Well, by number of posts, Tenryuu has quadruple the images here as Yuudachi, and even Akatsuki, the least popular of the four Akatsuki class ships, has double Yuudachi.
Tenryuu is arguably far more emblematic of Kancolle than Yamato is, and Shimakaze, the 6th DesDiv and Yukikaze are far more emblematic destroyers than those three.
Fubuki is there because "she's the main character", though. (Apparently, this is going to become some sort of for-serious thing... although I'm still half-expecting her to be Akarin! - the easily-forgotten "main character" who is basically a prop for getting the plot-driving characters in-camera.)
Is that true that there will be no Admiral in this anime ?
there should be no admiral in the anime. doubt anyone wants another generic "i want to get under the guy's pants" kind of anime. we have enough harem already.
no admiral is best. nothing against having an admiral though (as long as it doesn't end up into a yuri harem for females / as long as the admiral is similar to that of Idolm@ster's Broducer for males).
I have no qualms about having an admiral, as long as he is as awesome as most of the fanon ones (which, let's be frank, is unlikely). And I sincerely wouldn't mind something Sora no Wotoish.
Maybe the Admiral is there but not as a visible character. He is the background guy who drops missions for the girls. Maybe he is a fax machine that is wearing a hat.
