Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't the recovered Zeros prized more for the technical knowledge gleaned from them rather than the tactics developed to counter it?

Well during the initial flight test of the Akutan Zero, the Americans already seen several operational flaws of the aircraft. Also by gaining the technical knowledge of the aircraft, the Americans have discovered most of its disadvantages such as sacrificing pilot armor for speed and the lack of self-sealing fuel tanks, which they used to create a more powerful plane that could counter it.

The concept of the Americans F6F Hellcats were mostly based on the designs of the Zero without most of its major weaknesses. They also learned that an F4F could evenly match a Zero with some proper techniques and the knowledge they have gained from the captured zero.

Hellcat was being developed BEFORE the US even knew of Zero. While it is true that was some changes made after testing the Zero, in the end to say that the concept of Hellcat was based on Zero is to be an ignorant Weeaboo.

The Hellcat was actually a souped-up Wildcat designed to counter the abilities of the Zero. The Akutan Zero was more used to make sure the Hellcat was better than to apply the technical knowledge of the Zero.

    Zero fast! Zeroes = Dangerous!
It is said that the U.S. obtained detailed information on the Zero from this ordeal.
Pfft, no way the Japs could've devised a proper fighter.
    And yet,
    Zeroes = Dangerous
    However,
    The

    AKUTAN ZERO

    All our efforts for naught...
A Zero had already been recovered in February 1941, which crashed in Kunming, China.
    Amen...
    U.S.
    *chuck*
So we've figured out their engine, mass, horsepower and armaments. Let's send this up to the USAAF so they can study these.
Get's lost in a pile of papers and

    disappears

Yeah, okay, just leave it somewhere over there.
In July 1942, a crashed Zero was found on Akutan Island, Alaska.
And let's make sure Singapore gets a detailed manual too!
    Singapore

    Information does not reach.

And so, the information on the Kunming Zero was never put to use....

This particular fighter was flown by First Flight Sergeant Koga of the Ryuujou Fighter Sqn, which crash-landed following AA fire during the June attack on Dutch Harbor. His body was subsequently laid to rest by the U.S. military.
