Also impossible, Japanese ships do no carry cruise missiles because they're offensive weapons. Also impossible because Tomahawks have no active seeker and thus no ablity to target moving ships. Even more impossible because they had no means to transmit mid course guidance correction in any case due to lack of any satellites or any sort of off board asset. Also, ALSO impossible because they had no possible way to locate the ship to begin with hundreds of miles over the horizon with anything like the need accuracy. Also, also impossible because Tomahawk does not have a penetrating warhead, it would explode on contact with the shell inflicting little internal damage and being extremely unlikely to sink the ship, or even put the flight deck out of action for that matter.

The entire scene was a farce, if you're going to wank, at least get your shit right. At best they could have used a Harpoon, but with maybe a sixty mile range for a surface launch there is no way the CV would be close enough. ASM in general are overrated anyway as in point of fact in all of history up to this point an ASM has never actually been fired over the horizon and hit a ship ship. All launches have been within visual range for numerous reasons.

Well, to be honest, I just added that because I remembered about the Wasp sinking by Mirai when I saw this and I couldn't remember what sank Wasp so I assumed it was a ASM

In episode 22 of Zipang, the JDS Mirai uses a Tomahawk cruise missile to destroy the USS Wasp (CV-7). The characters specifically identified this as the anti-ship variant and it is visually identical to the Tomahawk missile. In real-life, JMSDF ships do not carry Tomahawk cruise missiles, as Article 9 of the Japanese Constitution forbids Japan from possessing offensive weapons of any kind. The use of the Tomahawk cruise missile in the story suggests that in the near-future universe of the JDS Mirai, Japan had changed its policy on offensive weapons.

But I do agree, since she is on a WW2 era there is no way she will able to hit a ship unless sighted in range.

I remember Mirai has MVSA-32J Umidori, a fictional VTOL aircraft. It took off to observe around there after the US planes retreated. It has some data link systems so I think it guided the tomahawk to the wasp. (But I don't know how she knew where the wasp was before it flied.)

Of course this is the interpretation to convince myself. I think that scene is very fictional. Even though the real JSMDF cooperated on the anime, many mistakes are still there. We should not think deeply about it.
