Short for Glock 36. Its a single stack 45ACP as opposed to the Glock 30 [my FAVORITE handgun of all time] which is a doublestack 45ACP. The G36 is sort of a modern day improved 1911. Super small profile, 6 round capacity, and very reliable. Although the pricing for the magazines and the limited versatility makes the G30 a much better option.

Makes sense. G36 is their plastic 5.56 rifle, G3 is their stamped sheet metal .308 rifle, G11 is their experimental caseless rifle.
