Kamikaze actually done a lot of activities during the final stages of the war. On January 26, 1945, she departed from Mako to rendezvous and screen convoy HI-91 during Operation KITA, she was ordered to proceed to Singapore on the next day. On May 16, 1945, Kamikaze engaged the British Destroyers and took light damage then she rescued 360 survivors from Haguro. Then on June 8, 1945, she also rescued 853 crew from Ashigara and 400 soldiers. Then on July 15, 1945, she engaged USS Hawkbill SS-366, she was lucky enough to avoid the torpedoes and managed to scare off the submarine which somehow earned admiration from her enemies. She stayed in Singapore and continued her escort and patrol duties until the end of the war together with Myoukou and Takao, but unlike the two, she was unscathed. After the war, she was used as a repatriation ship until she was ran aground off Cape Omaezaki on June 7, 1946. She was scrapped afterwards.

Like Yukikaze, Kamikaze could also be another Miracle Ship, just like her name suggested.

So Kamikaze is more or less the little sister figure to the Myoukous.... or, if you go by age, their aneki?

So Yukikaze and Hibiki have a comrade survivor.

Kamikaze was originally to be named either Kiyokaze or Soyokaze before ending up as Destroyer number One.

    (32 destroyers survived the war)

    5 Momi-class
    4 Minekaze-class
2 Kamizake-class (Kamikaze and Harukaze, both present in game now)
    1 Wakatake-class
    1 Fubuki-class (Ushio)
    1 Akatsuki-class (Hibiki)
    1 Kagero-class (Yukizake)
    6 Akizuki-class
    11 Matsu-class

Plus about 11 or 12 Tachibana-class (one of which, Nashi, returned to serve in the JMSDF as Wakaba, who I am convinced is Error Musume.

Similar to one of her modernization lines, being an old-type destroyer doesn't mean she's not fit for the battlefield.

Funny that Ushio isn't more prominently included in that group. She's not just a survivor, but also did a lot of rescuing work, herself. (Including towing Myoukou back to port while fighting off the submarine USS Bergall, and trying to rescue her sister-ship Akebono and Nachi's crew after the relentless pounding they took following Leyte.)

Anyway, you'll notice that over those ships you mentioned, almost none of them are implemented classes. The Matsu class was what would be called an "escort ship" built on the cheap for escort duties, and the other classes were mostly too obsolescent to be used for any duty but minesweeping in home waters. In short, they survived because they didn't fight.

The USN realized that the Japanese were using destroyers as backup supply ships, and made it a priority to take out their first-rate destroyers... and were ruthlessly effective at it, leaving only three survivors among the actual front-line destroyers.

Haguro and Kamikaze When they clashed with the British fleet during the Battle off Penang, Haguro gave the order for Kamikaze to withdraw. Afterward, Kamikaze returned to rescue Haguro's survivors.
Myoukou and Kamikaze Although she was one of Kamikaze's surviving comrades holding out at Singapore, Myoukou was crippled and unable to sail, leaving Kamikaze to struggle alone until the war's end. Myoukou could not be safely towed to Japan for repairs, so she was used as an anti-air battery
Nachi and Kamikaze During the Battle of Attu, the First Destroyer Division, including Kamikaze, accompanied the Fifth Fleet (led by flagship Nachi).
Ashigara and Kamikaze After Haguro sank, Kamikaze was placed under Ashigara's command, but she was torpedoed while they were returning from a transport operation. Kamikaze rescued the survivors.
