I believe it's meant to be as a "don't think about this emotionally". This is a doujin about exploring really, really terrible concepts with a total dispassionate eye for technical details, alone. Sort of like "the Earth will eventually be swallowed by the sun, but humanity will probably have utterly destroyed itself long before that, haha!"

To be honest, I find almost any sort of large timeskip story to be a terribly depressing thing, since it basically renders a giant chunk of people's time irrelevant just so they can talk about how people die.
