  • ハチの人たちあれこれ

    プチィラ族たちのことで新しく思いついたものとかとつらつらと…これを描いていたので前回はハチだけ無かったのでしたのだ。あと、女王様は紙に入らなかったのでちょっと屈んでもらっています。普段はもうちょっと脚伸ばしてます。

Since nobody has stepped up to translate this, I'm doing it myself and leaving for more experienced people here to beta it.

I've used small note boxes throughout this pool because making them cover the entirety of the text makes most of the pop-up box extend beyond the borders of the image.

Also, for anyone with sufficient knowledge of Japanese to have noticed the obvious... the translation at several points is far from literal, because taking the text literally results in very awkward constructions even for a Japanese sentence (i.e. "it doesn't sound like natural Modern English" is the least important/serious in the entire list of problems). In light of this observation and the fact that the artist's (pen) name is a combination of English names as well as a name that exists in Korean, Vietnamese and Thai but not Japanese, Red Hen (who did a great job betaing my work) and I have come to the conclusion that the artist is likely not a native Japanese speaker. Therefore, I've decided to take some liberty with the translation whenever literalism gave a result that looked too out of place (or even nonsensical), doing my best to make educated guesses on what Mr. Nam was trying to say.

    Queen
Queen (Joou) 女王 = "female monarch" The head of the family by virtue of being everyone's mother. She's the leader due to being the one with the highest authority, but since she's usually busy with giving birth and raising her children, day-to-day affairs are entrusted to the Princess or a Cerebrate. The royal jelly that's used to develop special individuals such as Princesses is refined inside the Queen's body, and administered to the larvae. Regarding the method for choosing special individuals, apparently the Queen "thinks about it" and then makes a decision. She's a gutsy mother who can tell apart all of her daughters. Her life span is said to exceed 1000 years.
