It might not be canon, but it has a damned fine story to end the series. Maybe something similar in the new Eva movies?

I have no faith the movies will have half as good of a ending as RE-TAKE.

If Anno had any sense in him, he would just animate Re-Take and call it a day. As it is, he's making the garbage that is the new movies, the *third* crappy ending to Eva
