Not sure if it is typical for all, but at the Indian Reservations that we had in the area that I worked in, Indians are rampant in the drug use (mainly alcohol, but a good spread of other substances) and raping their women that lead a lot to take shelter and leave the reservations. There was very little incident crime of Americans against Indians. The big problem are the gangs that are reminants from the late 1960 militants that stir up trouble every now and then.
Personally, I am a big fan of getting rid of the reservations, and going back to "termination" policies where Indians become united as Americans and all are under the same rule of law. That is the problem when people segregate themselves by their ancestors previous culture. You get anti-nationalist gangs and frequently the only victims of those gangs are the very people and neighborhoods the gangs originated from. There were quite a few asian gangs/mafia/counter-nationalists (same thing to me) where I grew up, but luckily my parents taught me to take pride in being an American, not as a Japanese/Chinese ethnic, so I didn't fall into those crowds. Some of my freinds were part of those gangs and the ones who didn't grow up ended up jailed, killed, or drugged out.
