Maybe it's Ash's Muk, since we know how really affectionate it is. Also, no one ever mentions it's smell, so maybe it was "cleaned" up a bit.

For the Toxic thing I'm willing to bet Muks can choose when to poison a fool.

The smell was mentioned when Ash first caught it. Apparently it was so bad that Professor Oak could smell it through the pokeball.
