Whoever added the pixiv_sample tag is wrong. I uploaded the largest versions of the images that I could find on the site.

@meddle It was added by a bot because it detected you uploaded the wrong image.

If you are going to upload from an album-type, make sure you either use the bookmarklet or click the diagonal arrows button on the top left to get to the correct image.

Essentially Pixiv requires you to be coming from somewhere on Pixiv to view the images, so yes. It's to keep people from embedding the images on a website and making Pixiv pay for the bandwidth.
