Are Japanese walls actually too thin to hide the sound of just heavy breathing? Because it IS possible to just keep it almost completely quiet, though that usually results in the relationship being reduced over time because vocalizations are an important part of sex, which in turn is believed by most people to be an important part of a satisfactory marriage.

Apparently doing exercise at home is impossible in Japan without pissing off the neighbours. Oh, and crying babies would piss off the neighbours too (in which case screw them for getting annoyed).

EDIT: Suzuya, maybe instead of renting that bridal dress and stuff for the wedding you should have invested the money in self-made sound-proofing the bedroom walls, and just gone to city hall for a registration. A relationship isn't really affected by how good the wedding looks after all as long as both parties find it agreeable enough.

IIRC that's why love hotels exist in Japan; those who cannot afford to rent/buy the kind of residence that doesn't have such thin walls can just rent a love hotel room by the hour.

No, I mean egg cartons with cardboard overlays on both sides IIRC make for pretty good soundproofing if you glue/tape it onto the walls.

Carpets on walls can help a bit too. At least this is how it was in Russia since typical "Khruschevkas" (5-storey apartments) have thin walls as well.
