Otherwise, I think jokes about Shibafu's art style have already been exhausted here. It's kind of like how Zun's art transcended "bad" and became a minor meme among fans. At least that's what I think. I've never been a fan of this art style anyways.

Agree. Honestly the only problem with her design is her head to body proportion, or at least those "shoulder pads" are making it looks off.
Well overall she doesn't look that bad but as most of people here said it already her head. I think I just got used to it that Shibafu until this game ends will draw almost the same face for everyone that's his style now I guess.

I wouldn't mind Enterpotato, mostly because (like you said) the shitstorm it would cause among western fans would be massive (and extremely amusing).
Since when is it wrong to dislike a character design? Especially for one that’s supposed to represent a honored warship? Even if we have no influence with these artists or the game dev, that still doesn’t mean we can’t make our opinions known anyway.

You can chalk it up to it being Shibafu's style rigging, why would you suddenly expect anything different from the same artist anyway?

On another note, Shizuma Yoshinori's style may look crazy but that's how everyone's different here. At least that's how I see it. The more variety the better (this is despite me wanting Yoshinori to work on every USN ship lol, for consistency's sake)
Though when I think about it, his designs won't look out of place in Azur Lane

I actually like Shibafu's art, but "you can't do better" is NEVER, EVER EVER EVER, a good response to criticism. In the words of Geoff Thew, "Criticizing art requires a totally different skillset from making it. I can't play a single note on most musical instruments, and the only thing I can really sing well is showtunes, but that doesn't make it any less valid when I say that the blend of elevator music and fetish pandering in Nekomimi Mode is absolutely insufferable."

I honestly think people are just jumping into the hate-train. I personally think the CG is ok and it made reference to how US navy crewman usually wear with their grey + thick PFD. Wondering if she will be able to mount modern day jets like the F4 since she did underwent the SCB-125 upgrade
It's not like the proportions are off anyways. It may seem small by anime standards, but the head is still perfectly fine by human standards, and that's always been Shibafu's thing; more realistic than fantastical. That, combined with the very large chest, thing around her shoulders, and her large rigging all make it seem like the proportions are off, but they're not.
I never have a problem with him until Mikuma swimsuit CG (that long body!). For Intrepid I feel dissapointed,I know he can do better than that! but why?

My money is on the guy who did Iowa as I feel he is able to channel the WW2 American spirit with his pin-up girl style. On top of this, he also made Saratoga, who not only doesn't have blonde hair but also channeled another aspect of this spirit: starlets.
I definitely don't want this guy not only for his potatoe face style, but also because he failed to convey to me that idea that I loved in Iowa and Saratoga. I mean even Gambier Bay channeled it better than this. Wouldn't mind if he does the lesser known ships though.
And as a side note, definitely want the guy who did Shimakaze to do Maury.

Shimakaze, Iowa, Yamato, Musashi, Saratoga all have the same artist Shizuma. So yea, I also feel he/she is the best candidate for enterprise but judging on how well Konishi(the one who draw Warspite, Jarvis and Ark Royal) is, I won't mind if he do it either.
This artist, Shibafu, definitely isn't bad imo. Although it's mostly potato faces, there is something authentic about his character designs. I definitely won't mind if he do one for a US DD or CA, it's just not suitable for big E.
BTW, the problem with this official art specifically really comes down to the proportion of head and body. Once that's fixed, it's not that bad either.
Odd artist choice for a non Japanese carrier... But I kinda got used to potato-ish art so it doesn't irk me specially. Anyway looking at the bright side of this, I guess it'll be extremely easy to tell both Lexington apart once they get implemented (since the namesake of the Lexington class will likely share artist with her sister, while the Essex one will be...yet another potato).
Remember, USS Intrepid (CV-11) was decommissioned for the last time in 1974.
She was laid down only six days before the attack on Pearl Harbor in December of 1941. She was launched in April of 1943 and commissioned in August of 1943. She was decommissioned in 1947 and later refitted with steam catapults and back in service in 1955, only to be pulled for a major refit/modernization in ending in 1957, where she got an angled flight deck and an enclosed bow. I'd also remind people that Iowa faced a fair amount of flak, from the west (cant speak for japan). Mostly due to how over-the-top and overly stereotyped, well as Americans appears in Japanese's eye, she appeared. A part of the westerners expected the KC take on Pacific Iowa, so the disappointment was as big as the expectations.
My theory is that Tanaka wanted to lighten the workload on Yoshinori when it comes to the US Navy that have many more notable ships compared to, let's say, Italy and France.

Forget the proportions or whatever this overall design is just bad IMO.
It's cluttered, the color palate is poor, and the silhouette is chunky and unflattering, there's also as another poster noted very little separating her from a IJN ship beside the overly large and frankly none to flattering back pack. It's just poor, the face and even proportions have nothing to do with why it's poor, but are making it worse. I outright cringed when I first saw it, there is almost nothing redeeming about it to me. I'd give it a D-, maybe a D+ if you fixed the head.
Please keep him away from any future US ships.

Overall I haven't seen much hate for Gambier Bay beside some minor grumbling about the blond hair and boobs everyone seemed to like Jervis.
May I ask what the problem with the head is? It looks like it would fit three times in her torso length (neck to crotch). That is normal body proportion and it would fit with Shibafu's other drawing since he doesn't tend to draw big waterheads as anime heads, like it is usually done. What a problem might be are the legs that indicate an awfully wide hip...

I think you stated the problem in your question. This is clearly meant to be manga/anime'ish design, but the head isn't really in proportion to the other exaggerated features that style implies. I'd also argue that the torso might be off in relation to the legs, an issue he's had before, so while the head is correct in proportion to that, it's still off in proportion to the overall body. It's not grossly off, but it's off enough for people to sense it.
My bigger issue though as noted is that I just think the costume and equipment design is dull and not very flattering or interesting. (And the addition of a giant inflated life jacket around her neck only serves to draw attention to this, and is an aspect of poor design choice)
Edit: I think the best way to see this is to compare her side by side with Akagi. The images are pretty much the exact same dimensions, I didn't resize anything there. To me Intrepid's body looks notably larger, in particular I think that if you straightened her out she'd have a case of giraffe legs, but her head seems almost exactly the same. Hence it looks too small for her frame to me while Akagi's seems fine. It could well be that a fair bit of this is an issue of posing, but avoiding awkward perspectives is an aspect of art as well.
Like I said it's not grossly off, but it's enough to cause that 'something about her doesn't look quite right' itch in the facial recognition bit of many people's brain.

Yoshinori has other projects like Toji no Miko, new Busou Shinki games, thus he actually has least time for Kantai, and KC currently less attrach new goods artist or even don't try contact other artist, some artist on pixiv also has good skill with mechanic/war stype and at least drawn people many better than Shibafu, example: Hetza, mivit, Ido, Gia, Tom-neko, Kojima Takeshi, etc.., and why not Bomber Grape? : )) v.v..., I not demand on high tier like 2D (Nidy), Honjou Raita or Tachikawa Mushimaro, cause these guys are costly.

Great, now we run the risk of somebody ruining a perfectly good m1903 to replicate this.
To be fair, they're not exactly rare. (And speaking as someone who has restored a formerly sporterized M1903A3 to replica milspec, I can't see any mod in that design which would be irreversible. None of the metal parts look to have been altered at all; it's just cosmetic changes to the furniture.)
That's a M1903 Springfield, isn't it? It's a nice thematic reference to Sara's Tommy Gun.

Is it too much to ask to get a USN ship with a bow? It's not like the US is unfamiliar with the bow & arrow and it would be nice to stay consistent with the rest of the ships......plus, I think bows are cooler.

Not at all, I'd prefer a costume (that's what this is) that's attractive on it's own merits with a color scheme that pops, rather the muted hues that only add to the uninspired feeling of the overall design.
Idk about you but I dislike getting MURICA screamed at me. I like it more subtle like how Shibafu drew USS Intrepid.
The eagle is the only thing you could say is over the top, but I don't actually mind that. I actually kind of like the idea of carriers being into falconry, it fits thematically.

The bow was never a really a part US culture, America even as a set of colonies was founded after the gun had become dominate. Frontiersmen didn't trek into the woods with bows and no battle in American history was ever decided by archery. There is simply no culture affinity or attachment to it in the way you see in Japan or England, for better or worse (mostly worse) the gun is the weapon that resonates in American culture and is associated with it abroad.
Having said all that I'm not much of a fan of "just give them a gun/bow" either, I'd have preferred they all work like a few of the IJN ships using summoning with a flight decks. I prefer that method in general because IMO the arrow/bullet stuff loses almost all of the nuance that actually goes into effective carrier deck operations. I think you can capture more of those crucial deck operations via a flight deck/summoning scheme then you can with just "shot an arrow/gun" which doesn't resemble it at all.
This is mostly me talking as someone looking at it from the fiction side of things though. Saratoga at least did something unique with it integrating it into a deck, which I didn't mind, but shibafu's take of "it's just a gun with some shit slapped on" is really lazy IMO and just another aspect of her overall poor design.

Don't know who down voted you dude. But it wasn't me. I appreciate you're insight and you're right. Guns are more a part of American culture than bows are.....still, I remember looking at Enterprise artwork by NOVEMBER. He equipped her with a bow and it looked awesome. I would love for the Enterprise to look like her. Right height too.
So we have a Springfield, a Thompson and whatever kind of rifle Gambier has. Now we jus' need carriers with a BAR, M1 Garand, M1 Carbine, M1919 Browning and a M1A1 Bazooka.

You're a tad late there... But I agree.
I do not really know why people hating on him and this Intrepid. He just did his job as he was told to by the higher-ups. If people want to blame, blame the one who chose him to draw Intrepid, not his style nor design.
