I suppose it is a Japanese pun. It is also quite common in Japanese humor for characters to wield vegetables as weapons. It is done constantly in Bobobo-Bo Bo-Bobo (from the episodes I have seen, at least), as well as done by the Pokemon Farfetch'd, who wields a leek as a sword. The leek is the most common vegetable used, as evidenced by Vocaloid and the OS-tans.

Actually the boxes say peppers (from China I think), so that kinda why I was asking.
