Hmm, the fur lining of her coat looks a little bit like white wings. She does look nice, but nice isn't the look I wanted for her, unfortunately. As well.

I was imagining a more "chunni" look for her Kai, but I can't deny that I like the way she looks here. Knowing Tenryuu her personality won't change a bit though.
But look at those "fuel tanks", she definitely matured.
She looks good, but her new outfit is closer to either of Tatsuta's than her original outfit. Like it doesn't scream "Tenryuu" to me.
Maybe if she did a Squall-esque pose with that jacket up, though.
That's kinda the point considering they're part of same fleet together. Tenryuu's original outfit was a basic design, and while her new Kai Ni look shares some similarities to Tatsuta, there are enough elements including the checkered necktie, jacket, and upgraded sword that make it unique enough to fit Tenryuu's tough girl persona.

Yeah, this. I was hoping for something a little more... badass than this (kind of like what Musashi or Nagato got). I wasn't all that keen on Tatsuta's new look to begin with, and it looks even stranger on Tenryuu.
Same. I felt that those were, dare i say, comically big.

Well, Tenryu is a joke after all.
I think that's the thing. Many of us want her to be something other than a joke. Cut those blimps down to ordinary levels of massive instead of helium filled, give her a black, sleeved, shirt and she'd actually pull off a fairly badass look, I think. Yes, she wouldn't tick the fetish boxes for some, but I'd be fine with that.
Unpopular opinion: I like her design just fine (both this one and the regular version). I enjoyed Xenoblade Chronicles 2 without getting rustled over the character designs as well. It's all par for the course.

Well the design isn't really the problem per se. Her outfit is pretty cool actually and lots of people like it. Its just Ayaki's very hentai-esque proportions that are an issue.
I see it as more a problem of small arms, especially compared to the thickness of those thighs. Maybe it's just the giant chest skewing my perception of torso size, but while the torso would be a bit small with larger arms, the body proportions would seem fairly normal with larger arms. (Well, that, and I am thinking those are high-heel boots, but might be wrong, but having legs that take up about half the body length is fairly normal. You just don't normally notice because of typical eye-level perspective.)
