It's a type of parrying dagger called a main-gauche, french for left hand. They were typically wielded by duelists in the renaissance period alongside one-handed swords like the rapier and used to, well, parry the opponent's own sword. That's why it has those prongs and such a long crossguard, to more easily catch the opponent's sword.

It's quite functional, as it is a parrying dagger
