My personal headcanon is Tachyon's going too far with one of her MAD SCIENCE™-fueled human-subject experiments (likely causing some permanent damage or a scandal) leading to her irreversibly alienating her trainer who now hates her.

And her response is to try to solve this with more MAD SCIENCE™. Trying to force her trainer to smile against his will. She didn't learn from her lesson, making it all the sadder, and making her trainer dislike her further.

This is just my interpretation though. And the beauty of these two pages is that they allow multiple interpretations.
