I am still learning about Touhou since I have never played the games (or heard of them prior to coming to Danbooru). Sorry about that :P

Well, it's mostly about terribly overpowered flying lolis with silly hats beating the shit out of each other with billions of epilepsy inducing bullets, then laughing it off and having a cup of tea at Reimu's.

LOL, I dont even know where to get the games, and from what I have seen of them, I dont think I could play them without getting myself frustrated and then beginning to throw things, Hehehe. Its not because they look hard, but simply because I suck at those types of games.

So far, I DO like Touhou though ^_^ What I like about it the most is how each character is unique in their design and personality. I have always loved stuff where there are a bunch of unique characters who all look different and have very different personalities and what-not. For some reason, Touhou reminds me of Guilty Gear and BlazBlue (which I both love) in that aspect, but of course those games and Touhou are completely different in many other ways.

SSiB is shit. Nicely drawn, but Yuyuko and Yukari troll the living shit out of you in the end. Also, Watatsuki sisters will make you want to rape their faces and strangle them to death.
I seriously recommend playing the shmup games (at least on easy). I sucked hard at them before I started and I still do. The dialogues are lulzy, you will get the basic idea, and the feeling of the music and gameplay combined can not be compared to anything else.
And you can read some good doujins, there are circles that do awesome stuff that is both canon loyal and epic at the same time.

That and the music (doujin and ZUNs') is what drew me in as well. Its been several years now and I'm still just as hooked.

They're around to buy.... but you can easily find a download with little effort. I believe all the games have english patches now, save for the current fighter.
Also skip SSiB if you want. Some hate it, some don't mind it. See for yourself.

Just google a bit, it's seriously easy to find (megaupload etc.). English patches are available on Touhou Wiki and yes, they should be all Win7 compatible. Just hope you have a 4:3 screen, with 16:9 it kinda sucks (deformed, weird movement etc.), well, I have to play it on 16:9 and I got used to it eventually.
About dropping SSiB - your choice. It's so-so, but one of the shittiest stories I have read, which is pretty sad considering the fact it's canon.
Well, I have a problem. I downloaded all the Touhou games from 1 through 12.3, plus all available English patches (so I can understand the stories)... and... I am now ADDICTED :D LMAO!!!! I can only play the shmup games on easy though; and even then, I sometimes still suck. BUUUT the games are SOOOO much fun! WOW!
Im going out tomorrow morning to buy a [cheap] gamepad to hopefully make the shmup games easier for me to play, and to ESPECIALLY make the fighting games POSSIBLE (I cant do combos that require the diagonal arrows... only up, down, left, and right). I usually only play console games, so logic tells me that with a gamepad, I will have an easier time with the controls. :)
Thanks for suggesting the games! I didnt think I could play them, especially the PC98 ones... I have no idea what PC98 even is. NOW I HAVE SOMETHNG TO DO THIS WEEKEND, heh heh heh. *sinister smirk*
