It's at the very end of the .Hack continuity timeline and while very strange, nothing so far suggest it to be non cannon. The way The World and the story seems to work are ..different then previous entries.

You sure we have to go with "very end?" I mean, seriously, I know a spinoff when I see one, even from the manga. It's like Valkyria Chronicles 2, set for a "certain" audience. The only thing Cyber Connect can do to convince me that this "canon" title in a PSP has a closure, instead of using the PS3, is that the ending has to be 10x more climactic than the previous titles. And I'm talking about something more epic than Kite's ending.

CC has already stated .hack//LINK for the PSP is not only canon, but it is the closing segment of the .hack story along with the anime they started producing for it.

more Naruto games (they seem to make CC2 enough money), and the Tail Concerto relaunch theyve been working on for a little while. also, I remember some years back (before GU was officially announced) that they were posting some novel on their site with some new story (not .hack related in the least) that dissapeared among site changes after GU's official announcment, I would like to see them bring that back to life.

I remember that! then again... it wouldn't be CC2's .hack game without a little teaser at the end, done in the same style of G.U.s ends. Also something about .hack//3rd Season and yet another tease of .hack//4th Season? Damn!
