It's said that Alice has the ability to make her dolls control dolls.

Which means that in the end, the little Alice we know, is just controlling Alice Margatroid, and alternate persona of Alice from Makai. I guess the Grimoire that Alice Margatroid has is a replica, which is why it's never opened, because there is nothing magical about it.
