Couldn't have Satori read Utsuho or Rin's mind to find out about this?

To all of you thinking Satori's being a bitch, how MORE heartbreaking would it have been to watch Okuu crying over a cancer-ridden dying child? Or watch the Former Hells slowly start to ice over as the Furnace of Hell dies down?

Satori demonstrating to Orin she really can't take care of the child while at the same time ensuring there wouldn't be a real big danger to the child by manufacturing her own threat is probably the safest route out for everyone. Sure, there's the RAH RAH RAISE CHILD IN UNDERWORLD route, but I wouldn't risk a child I loved to it.

You now realize the child was Teruyo all the time and that it would outlive its "mother" by, like... infinity, right?

so you would abandon it to a place you would have no idea how it is doing and just "hope for the best" sorry dude
i don't buy that, especially if any of you have your own kids would know that abandonment is never an option....
sure yes she has got nuclear powers and it can harm the child we all know that. but if she has someone watch the child for her while she does whatever she does to keep them fires going then it should be fine so no you wouldn't have a cancer ridden kid either.
personally i would of picked the rah rah raise the child in the underworld route.
i am pretty sure with some careful planning and effort that kid would turn out pretty darn good in the long run?

I see nothing wrong with Satori's method, though it clearly wasn't the best option they had. Mm, of course, I wish Okuu were allowed to be with the child. I doubt it was so completely out of the question. Ah, the first panel is really saddening. If seen by itself it'd look as if the baby died. She really may have if she weren't an immortal who drank the Hourai elixir.

I hope Okuu were allowed to at least be a godmother and get to visit the kid from time to time when she's free. Actually, the revelation at the end kinda spoils the entire touching comic. Particularly because I hate Kaguya.

Actually, LickKing, Holydude... you two forget one main point... Okuu took that child from the upper world... Meaning it isn't hers... now just imagine how a loving mother would feel, when her child is taken from her... Meaning that Okuu abandoning the child is the only option, since she already caused more than enough pain in the original parents... And I do know that I'm being kinda heartless here, but you guys just can't look at the whole picture... And that's what causes you to say that the raise her in hell option would have been better... -.-

we could play with these words alot like
how did she take it from the upper world?
what if she found it abandoned?
    parents were killed?
    etc etc..
theres just too many questions unanswered in that direction that we could all play with to try justify our opinions...
all i can say is i stand by mine and thats pretty much it.
and i am sure you stand by yours as well as every other person out there does to there own too.
either way i said my piece and am just gunna leave it at this.

Nuuh? It was never established as to how Okuu got the baby. Of course, it's fully possible that Okuu raided a random home and took the kid, but it's also possible that she found the baby, say, abandoned in the woods and crying for someone to take care of her. Not knowing that, no one can make a concrete conclusion. And think about how the people on the Surface would treat her. A homeless kid, raised by a youkai of the Hell who works for the feared and hated Satori? Even most humans who aren't blindly hostile to youkai would refuse to associate with her.

Certainly neither sending the baby back to the surface nor keeping her in the Hell is the best option, but I'd rather choose the one that keeps the characters I like happy. It's not a given that it's completely impossible for the baby to survive and grow healthy in the Hell either. I'd find a way if I were in those shoes. Hey, wait. I don't even recall saying that keeping her in the Hell was the better option. I merely said I wish Okuu could have stayed with the kid (come one, who doesn't?) and defended Satori's action. And I said I wish it weren't a complete farewell for Okuu and she be allowed to meet the kid when she'd like as a godmother, which happens, mind you, when she sends the baby back to the surface.

Okuu hasn't been okay since then, has she?
Let's just leave her be for now.
    Okay...
    I-I'm sorry!
If we could have persuaded her before she got too attached to it, I wouldn't have had to make a deal with that oni.
More important is how late you were in reporting all this to me.
She really loved that baby from the bottom of her heart.
