if you are not used to them, yes. very. its quite a shocker if your usual life is a cold shower and temperate climate

It depends on if you keep heating it up. You can totally stay at lower temperatures if that's what's more comfortable for you, but people who use saunas more often tend to want more heat which can be too much for people who rarely go to saunas.

You can also sit on the lower boards where it's less hot if you have to or want to share a sauna with such a person.
