I think the plot here is that the first 90% of this chapter is happening in the normal Haruverse, but somehow they are crossing over into the parallel one in the first chapter. We won't know until someone chooses to translate this though.
From the point when are start playing cards (they're playing the Japanese version of 'Old Maid,' where a joker is added as the odd card out), the story is set in Male Kyon's universe. Mikuru doesn't understand the rules of the game, and ended up holding on to the joker until it was her last card, making her the automatic loser. This starts Male Kyon thinking about how he's holding on to his own 'joker' too tightly, and (it seems) on a perverse whim blows Haruhi's mind at the end of the game by telling her he's John Smith. Afterward, he thinks about the difference between playing a card and throwing it away. At the same time, in Female Kyon's universe, Female Kyon is trying to use the same 'joker' to shock Haruhi into changing her back into a man, but it backfires when Haruhi decides that Female Kyon is actually the girl that John Smith had with her ("Haruhi's dream ate my joker!"). At that point of intersection, Haruhi pulls Male Kyon into Female Kyon's universe to validate her assertion that Female Kyon can't be John Smith. Incidentally, Female Kyon had earlier come to the realization that she is (physically, at least) a version of Haruhi (a short, flat-chested version, but still), which is why Male Kyon sees her and Haruhi as 'two Haruhis' just as Haruhi sees Male Kyon and Female Kyon as 'two Kyons.'
Edit: actually, it looks like Male Kyon only considered telling her he was John Smith, and decided that he had ended up with the 'joker,' after all, as using at any point would be like detonating a bomb.
@Contradiction: Perfect or not, we really, truly appreciate the translations. Until the day I get my lazy ass to learn some moon runes, any and all help is appreciated.
@Alhazred23: This only reconfirms my belief that this series is the best thing I've ever seen. It's got everything. Suspense. Action. Asahina thinking she can play strip poker.
This is the only way I can read the series either, with my dictionary program. I've wanted to read this doujinshi for a while too, but sadly nobody was translating it.
It's seriously easier to use Danbooru than to write the lines down in a text file. But, it's pretty hard, and lately there have been a lot of sentences that are tough to figure out, and when I reread some of the stuff I wrote I wonder if I have some kind of damage.
In terms of my priorities, I want to do the rest of page 4 and 5 and then eventually do things like the bathing chapter I skipped in page 4 and the strip poker sequence. Which means, the next thing after Haruhi's super-disturbing three-page rant about how Kyon's younger sister's nipples are ok to put in a doujinshi is the menstruation story. So I don't really feel strongly that I have something I want to do ... At this point, a bit, I'm just continuing since I got this far. Do you have anything that you want me to do next?
Kyon could just say "Haruhi! I'm John Smith. Nice huh," but "there's a difference between playing the trump card properly, and just throwing it away by using it at random" seems to be what he's thinking. Using it the wrong way would be like setting off "saiyaku jibaku," the most horrible suicide bomb.
Although I don't think there's a wrong way to use it, or that waiting for some crisis and then piling it on would work. I think he's scared to use it...
If you could say such a thing about the super-unflappable Kyon, who didn't even react to being told that Nagato had restored the world to the original more or less by guesswork. (Or for that matter, who didn't even react to being forced to decide which four people to kill.)
