I love how the this screws up the thumbnailer by taking advantage of linear gamma calculation. It's pretty amusing.

Highlighting it in Internet Exploder could invert the colours too.

This is actually a bit different from the highlighting trick. This isn't using selection mode to hide or reveal anything; it's more about making a mockery of most imaging software.

See this extensive write-up on why and how it works if you're interested: http://www.4p8.com/eric.brasseur/gamma.html

    >Internet Explorer only feature

    What do I wrong?

Because I see Koishi in the background, when the pic is opened at 1:1.

    So Firefox works here:
    Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; hu-HU; rv:1.9.1.9) Gecko/20100402 Ubuntu/9.10 (karmic) Firefox/3.5.9

    Opera works also:
    10.60 Internal, 10.60 Internal, Linux, x86_64, 2.6.31-21-generic

and the basic imageviewers, and the GIMP works too

    Or am I missing something?

It's not related to the IE selection bug/feature. It's a bug in gamma calculations performed by image scaling algorithms. See the link just above your post for details.

In firefox I can see it by holding ctrl and scrolling my mousewheel to change the size of the page I'm viewing.

You are now subconsciously aware that Koishi is stalking you. Manually.

great, you suggested that tag, but didnt even bother to add it
Now that I start wondering how many "thumbnail surprise" pics we mistagged.

this is like a double suprise.1st the thumbnail has satori with diamond background, but when you click the image you get square background. and if you resize it, you get another suprise....

This looks pretty neat when you right click it and choose "view image info" in Firefox. It goes from gray background to the full picture with a sort of checkerboard transition.

All I know is that the background of this image has a sense of very fine static, like it has been animated. I don't know whether that's the browser or my eyes. It's also flashing inverted colors temporarily as I scroll (I know that's the browser). I don't know which effect is more unnerving.

I opened http://danbooru.donmai.us/data/19e348d961a2338bcdff7dc9abd92723.jpg on Internet Explorer and had quite ghastly experience as I saw what appeared to be opaque picture of Koishi on that checker-boarded grey-dark grey background for few seconds until it vanished as image re-sized.

Will I ever see this image as it was meant to be? Modern browsers and all. All I see is Satori and the checkered background

Watch it with direct link (the one with "size: 2.24 MB .jpg"). Then, upscale to 1:1 - make sure it's exact, since under- and overscalin will result in more checkers/circles. Still works.
