I was able to translate the first, and the first kanji of the others (arm, chest|breast, shoulder). But I'm not able to find the damned 2. kanji.
Anyhow, I guess it's kanji for pillow or something.

argh. I see that now. I tried to find a kanji 100% similar to the picture.
I'm new to translating (as you might have noticed), is it often there are small variations to how the kanji is written?

No, as far as I know, even a small variation would mean a different meaning.
