if you go outside of the Wacom's to a you can find them pretty cheap. I bought a Aiptek 9x12 tablet a few years ago for $100 (rebranded as an Adesso)

Wacom does deliver the best quality though. I personally think spending about 400$ for something I used nearly every day the last 5 years was a good investment.

Well, sadly to say, you'd be hard-pressed to find a good tablet for even 50$. At least you could get a decent tablet at around 100$.
