I've seen a lot of suggestions, but THIS qualifies for gameplay mechanics.

I don't think Cheren has much control over that aspect

That's only half of it. Choice items lock you into one move, and Fake Out can only be successful on a pokemon's first turn in battle. It fails every turn after that.

Actually, I don't even think being Specs has any significance other than being easily confused with real glasses.
