Nah, GL is a reconstruction and a tribute to the rest of the Super Robot genre, Nanoha is a straight magical girl show with new stuff (megitech, transforming weapons, etc) tacked on. Best comparison I can think of is... hm... Eureka Seven, maybe?

I know right? Madoka totally didn't include a bunch of metaphysical buffoonery to make it seem like it it was making a point. It also didn't have a bunch of emotionally manipulative nonsense at the end while brushing off important plot points by resorting to abstract scenes in the final episode. Yeah, it sure showed EVA...
