Why would anything tagged "touhou" ever be in the 'most unlikely crossovers' pool?

Well, it is true, if a series is popular it seems it will always be mixed in with touhou. Though, this isn't true for all anime or games, even movies. I think it has to be either a certain point in popularity or bad. XD

Though, anyone with their panties in a notch because an artist wanted to put touhou in soemthing deserves a vote-down. :|

(is going to get a vote-down!!!) XD

Well, Touhou is popular so touhou has many pictures so many tag are involved in Touhou.

It is logic you know, why complain about a fact?

going by that logic (more popular=more crossovers)
how come Persona/Final Fantasy/Crash Bandicoot/whatever popular series you can think of dont have a fuck ton of crossover pics?

    Results for persona crossover: ~120
    Results for persona: ~7200
Proportion of Persona crossover posts: ~1.7%

    Results for final_fantasy crossover: ~460
    Results for final_fantasy: ~10740
Proportion of Final Fantasy crossover posts: ~4.3%

    Results for touhou crossover: ~1960
    Results for touhou: ~195560
Proportion of Touhou crossover posts: ~1.0%

That's right, kiddo; the proportions of Final Fantasy and Persona crossover posts are greater than the proportion of Touhou crossover posts. You've shot a hole in your own boat here.

Also, what the fuck is Crash Bandicoot doing in that list?

That might be because the shher amount of Touhou doujins uploaded increase the max count of posts under Touhou, while leaving the corssover count mostly out. While how many comics are here of the other titles? (heck, I'd dare a bet, that the total amount of Touhou comic and 4koma series have more posts than those titles altogether.)

EDIT: it has about 19 000 posts...

I'm not entirely convinced by this argument, but let's assume it's valid and leave out the ~19600 posts under touhou comic. That reduces the number of touhou posts to ~175960, for an updated proportion of... ~1.1% Touhou crossover posts.

And just for kicks, I checked final_fantasy crossover -touhou to get rid of Iron of Ying and Yang's skewing effect, which brought Final Fantasy's crossover proportion to 1.3%, still above the Touhou crossover proportion. This argument really holds no water whatsoever, and anyone with five spare minutes and the ability to divide integers should have been able to figure that out for themselves.

There's no logic in here. To most dwellers of danbooru, Touhou is more popular than anything else and that's why people keep uploading Touhou pics from pixiv/deviantart/other sites and INCIDENTALLY, many of them are crossovers. It's a fact and you can't deny it.
If you want to argue, start by UPLOADING MORE PICS of whatever crossover you want into danbooru and make sure that the pics is appropriate enough for the mods to approve them.

I'm still wondering why did you put Crash Bandicoot into your argument, though...

People just love to argue, friend...

Be it the smallest of things, or even if it is fact and the absolute truth, people love to argue...

Eh, who knows..? Maybe some are just in-denial or just plain haters of seeing something they love have a Touhou crossover...

Like I said, in denial of the absolute truth...

But...Crossovers are not a bad thing, and it either makes us laugh or makes us gawk at the bad-assery~

Heh...This whole argument is just people comparing who's d*ck is bigger, but we all know Touhou wins on that account...

(Pixiv is Touhou dominated, friend...At least 1400 fanarts come in every single day[20 per page, 70 pages], not including Pixiv fan-comics and multiple image variations...

And speaking of comparing sizes, Touhou have more Futanari doujins than any other game series or anime series ever made [roughly around 900 in the internet including a few of anthologies with 200-300+ pages, but there are still tons that have not been scanned yet], so yes, technically and literally, they DO have the bigger peni--er, influence and popularity when it comes to futa doujins [and don't even get me started with the regular straight/rape Touhou doujin count or the Non-H ones at that]...

Unless you want to prove me wrong and browse the entire internet of futanari doujins of other series...)

Touhou has just THAT much appeal and influence...

Also, this picture was probably inspired by this:

Well, your comment too is an argument, and I don't buy it because I do not accept your underlying assumption that it is a pointless thing. Neither does your childish way of speaking make your assumptive argument any more acceptable.

Look, right back at you. You think people should just enjoy the image. I think you should just enjoy the image too, and pay no heed to the discussion going on unless there's something you would like to contribute to the argument. If the discussion appears to be escalating to verbal violence, go to the forum and report it. As simple as that, no need to make an utter fool of yourself.

Not that I think Kanrin is making a very reasonable argument. If it's an argument at all. I've seen so many like him that I can already guess his train of thoughts.

Before I attempt to engage in a discussion with you, pray tell me. Have you written that reply with expectation to convince me? Because I had to stare at your comments for like twenty minutes and still failed to tell whether you have a convincing argument at your disposal or whether you are just another severely biased and narrow-minded anti-Touhou who think it is 'cool' to dislike something for the sake of it and meaninglessly blame the society for being unfair.

I await your reply. Let me hope that I can engage in a highly neutral and meaningful discussion regarding the topic of possible favoring of Touhou by the moderators, which may well be true and will be a serious matter if so.

Actually, no. I'll make do with what I can.

Firstly, you claim that countless good enough images get deleted or unapproved every day for no reason. Let me assume that your unsubstantiated assertion is true. How many good enough Touhou images, tell me, do you think get deleted or unapproved every day? How many 'shitty' non-Touhou images do you think are approved every day?

Keep in mind that the system of moderators approving images is bound to be imperfect. Some images may not be approved simply because the moderators happened to miss them. The type of images considered unacceptable in Danbooru is also very subjective. We have images of guro even though they are supposed to be banned in Danbooru, for example. Danbooru moderators too are humans and subjective. Some images get approved despite going against the acceptable criteria for several reasons and they are acknowledged in the howto:upload article. In other words, it cannot be helped that the moderators may be slightly subjective regarding which images pass the quality standards. And considering how popular Touhou is, I believe it is acceptable even if moderators happen to favor Touhou images slightly.

Unless you were not generalizing or exaggerating when you claimed that "If it's Touhou, it doesn't matter how shitty a picture is." I believe you are not.

In fact, this is what I have found.

    • Percentage of deleted Touhou pictures = 5.5%
    • Percentage of deleted non-Touhou pictures = 9.6%

While the interpretation of this is also up to subjective boundaries, I believe this is fully acceptable. The figures also show little: it is entirely possible that comparatively more high-quality pictures related to Touhou are uploaded than non-Touhou images.

I hope this made my assertion clear enough. If you still have doubts regarding the fairness of the moderators, I will be glad to engage in meaningful discussions.

Honestly, I actually had to ask several MODs to see it this content was acceptable, and then it got approved...

It's one-of-a-kind and shares a common interest between the insane, and the already insane...

Even if this gets deleted, the link is still there and people will look at it directly in Pixiv for all it's jagged and emotional glory...

Also, why don't you have a one-on-one talk with the approver about your issue with this particular Touhou Crossover, if you have nothing better to do with your time...

Strange, Compared to all of the heavy details (Which I accept.) I just keep it simple. It's easy for me, If it's something I like, I'll keep it and stay silent. It's not the case for everyone else here as it seems.
    ---

I'll slash it to a simple sentence to strike the main person: "yourself."

    --
If you like it, favorite it, save it, hold on to it. If you have a distaste for it, then silently move on to the next picture. It's the internet, so there will always be arguements. You might as well save the energy and move on. Eventually, the popularity will die down at some point in time and the next phase will start up while this one will fade away into a sandstorm.
    ---

It seems like it's closer than you think, but as popular as it is now, it may be around for a long time.
    ---
I'm not here to argue, just to lay down a simple few words to help all who choose to look over the words. Besides, internet arguements are fun to read at any time. Here's a few words I can say: "Winning an Internet arguement is like winning the special olympics, if you succeed...well you get the idea for the most part. You're still mentally deficient."
    ---
Once it fades from the general public, all the arguements about Touhou will seem foolish in some way. It may never come to light, it could happen tommorrow, it could happen in 20 seconds or so. We won't know until it starts to disappear. Less videos, less comics, less doujins, less games.
    ---

It happended with the few series:

Raiden (A New game hasn't been created since Raiden IV which was released in 2007 in Japan, and 2008 in the U.S. This is a Shoot Em' Up Style game)

Killer Instinct Series (A fighting game that hasn't had a new game in Years, mainly since the 90's. It was ported to the Nintendo 64 along with a few other consoles)

Viper Phase 1 Series (It was a spin off of a Spin-off from the same company who created Raiden and the Raiden Fighter series. I'm referring to Seibu Kahatsu. Another Shoot Em' Up Series from the 90's.)

From what I've seen Thunder Force is the Oldest of the three.

Touhou and Raiden were from the 90's, while Thunder force was from the Mid 80's.

Infact the Thunder Force series is almost 30 years old and it's not very well known compared to Raiden, which pails compared to Touhou.

From what I've seen from small clips in the past. Touhou spans from several genre's (Fighting, Shoot Em' Up, RPG style turn-based gameplay, Etc. It's a good thing that clip I watched accidently a few years ago appeared.
    ---

For those who didn't read it all this is the main bulk

Touhou is a fad, fads come and go, afterwards there's very few likers and a new fade will arise. I'm very aware I'll grow bored of it one day but the main question is: "Do you know of it ?" More will spawn in the future, and older ones are forgotten. Everything is a victim of that appearance and vanishment cycle, even touhou. Patience and time is what will bring it to its end. Then the next fad will arise.
    ---

Unfortunately look at what you see in The Thunder Force Series at the Pixiv site and here, and compare the amount s you see in Touhou for images. Touhou spreaded out, while Thunder Force and Raiden Stayed within its own boundaries. You can see why Touhou is popular while the other 2 aren't. There's a large installment of games and If I'm precise, Touhou has more than those 3 games put together when it comes to games.
    ---
Those words should sink in by now.

sorry to bring an old argument back up, but my previous comments were made at a time when i was tired of seeing Touhou everywhere on danbooru, had never played the games but i just hated that it was pretty much everywhere

ive played a few of the games a bit (havent beaten any) and have since come to terms with touhous prevalence on the web, i actually quite like the series now
and i listed crash bandicoot since it was really popular for a while then everyone just seemed to forget about like it never existed in the first place

I realize the conversation is like a year old, but to put my two cents in...

Touhou's popularity springs from the absolutely massive amounts of derivative work that promotes even more derivative work - it's not simply popular, but it's popular because original work of it is made. All the attention that's paid to it is not because of some big advertising campaign, but because of the enthusiasm given by its fans. I think ZUN understands this well enough, given his policies regarding how his work may be used (basically, doujin only).

Anyway, with regard to that whole "Most unlikely crossovers" thing, I regard Touhou almost like a rule 34.5 thing - If it exists, there is a Touhou crossover for it. I think the spirit of the pool is more along the lines of "Wow, I never thought about seeing those characters interacting with each other, but it works really well", not simply "These crossovers are statistically unlikely".
