I'm wondering how the pacing is going to be for the last 7 episodes of this season? At first, it was looking like they were set to end at the conclusion of the Central Entrance arc, which would allow season 2 to begin on the White Lightning arc, but now I'm not so sure.

I think there are 2 cours for this season. 24 episodes in total, so with the actual pacing, I reckon they can animate the complete White Lightning arc (Tennou-sho, Japan Cup and Arima Kinen included)
I hope lol. It would be the best thing for the series

Well, they're currently at around 2.66 chapters per episode. To finish out the White Lightning arc (which ends in chapter 76) in 24 episodes, it'd take 3.33 chapters per episode from now on, which is a worrying increase in source distillation. Basically, while it would be nice if they could finish out that arc within the next year, I don't want to see them rush the final product just to fit it all in within the framework of a cours. If it takes 28 episodes, then let it take 28 episodes. If it takes 32, then let it take 32. I'm sure that fans would be happier with the best adaptation of the source material and not something that was artificially distorted by marketing or production concerns.

The first half will clearly end around chapter 27-30 at the end of NZT which be a perfect conclusion for that arc, then Mermaid Left Behind would be totally perfect OVA bridging to the 2nd half for White Lightning Arc.
