Eh they can make more money through all the expanded universe stuff, like the books, motion comics, etc.

Only from the die-hards; the average brah doesn't even play the single-player mode, let alone care about the story. It's like the difference between making Star Wars Episode 1 and publishing more Star Wars Expanded Universe stuff, and I think we know how that turned out.

The sad part is you're right. Halo certainly has a bigger backstory than it's gameplay would imply, but most of the people who play it probably don't know. Without the books there to expand the universe, Halo would probably be as generic as the stories in the game imply. Still there are times I wish I could see fanart of things like the Spartan-IIIs or see information that shows that the fans aren't just there for the multiplayer.

Still I have to wonder if the Halo novels and other products of the expanded universe are even in Japanese? The motion comics have Korean subtitles of all things, like here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgkVBsf5sZ8. If you must know the motion comics all depict stories from the Halo Evolutions book.

If you want pdf downloads of Halsey's journal, here is a youtube link which shows megaupload links: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1b1Lru1dJI

Personally I wonder if the Japanese know of Red vs. Blue?

I've heard people claim that the stories of the Halo games progressively got lousier after Halo CE because Bungie became obsessed with the multiplayer aspect. Do you think that's true?

I wouldn't say the stories got lousier, but the single-player aspect did seem to atrophy a bit after Halo CE, while the beefing up seemed to go largely to the multiplayer

Reach was a step in the right direction as far as making a good campaign, but I didn't care for the overall adventure

Honestly, I am of the opinion that the ONLY reason the Halo series didn't die off with all the other bad Xbox games is simply because of Halo 2's multiplayer. Because, yes, the story and single-player are shit. But now, freaking everyone uses the Halo model for multiplayer. I'm pretty sure that Halo's also the reason so many modern games focus much more on multi-player than single-player.

I dunno, me and my best friend had hours of fun on the campaign of the second game, and I felt the story was decent in the second one. And I also quite enjoyed the single player on my own. But that's my opinion.

So how is Halo 4 in your opinion, and how does 343 Studios compare to Bungie in this?

Somebody was translating the series until sometime in 2009.
They got about midway through season 2.

All in all, I'd say there are tens of people in japan who know of it.

Interestingly, some of the movies they made about Halo 4 got dubbed, possibly by some kind of Japanese branch of 343i.

OOOO you had me at RVB.......

Yes some of the promotional Halo things (funded and sponsored by Bungie or 343 Studios respectively depending on dates) like DIYs and such were dubbed in Japanese, but otherwise they don't get much of RVB. THEY NEED TO THOUGH! I swear to fucking Buddha I'll try and make decent Japanese subtitles for the entire series!.... It'll be hard though, because there are a lot of nuances in English that don't translate well, but that shit's TRIPLE from the Japanese side, I just hope it'll work.
