So essentially running water is just any kind of moving water...if vampires ever did exists in our world with that kind of weakness, no wonder their extinct. Hiding from the sun is easy enough though. heck, there are even humans who were born sensitive to the sun.
Playing tabletop RPGs I've learned that the sun is the least of vampiric worries. The sun goes away within a few dozen hours, waiting for rivers to dry up takes forever and tricking someone to invite you inside (doubly hard if said place is an enemy fortress you're attacking) is where it really gets annoying.
