The main character of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. A curious little girl who ends up on an unplanned adventure when she falls down a rabbit hole. Throughout the story she is in search of the White Rabbit.
Alice is popularly depicted wearing a pale blue knee-length dress with a white pinafore overtop. Her hair is held back with a wide ribbon.
Since many early illustrations were black and white, her colors would vary from artist to artist; it was Disney who made blue the most popular color for her dress her eyes and blonde for her hair. Completing the signature appearance are white pantyhose, bloomers and a black hairband.
Disney's depiction of Alice is so popular that in subsequent media, it is common for a character named "Alice" to share the aforementioned traits from Disney's Alice (especially her costumes as well as her hair and eye color), even if that said character has nothing to do with Alice in Wonderland itself.
