阿弥陀如来 阿弥陀仏

The principal buddha of Pure Land sect of Mahayana Buddhism. Also known as Amitayus, and rendered as "Amida" in Japanese.

Mida no jouin was used far more than the regular dhyana mudra in Japanese statuary as a way of distinguishing him from other buddhas.

Famously depicted in the form of the Daibutsu, the 13.35 meter tall statue at the Koutoku-in Temple in Kamakura.
