A projectile fired from a gun. Technically, most modern bullets are released from a cartridge, which contain a shell casing, a primer, gunpowder, and then the bullet itself. While it is very common in everyday language to refer to a complete cartridge as a bullet, here it means only the separated projectile itself, without the casing.
