Catharanthus is a genus of flowers in the dogbane family Apocynaceae. Most species are native to Madagascar, with one species in India and Sri Lanka. They have five petals in a pentagonal formation, sometimes slightly twisted like fan blades.
They are visually similar and closely related to periwinkles, thus they are commonly called Madagascar periwinkles. They are usually pink or purplish-pink in contrast to true periwinkles, which are various shades of blue.
