The first of Generation Four Monster Hunter games released in Japan. Unlike other numbered entries, "4" reads as "Four".
MH4 introduced insect glaive as a weapon. 4 also revamped ledges and jumping as a mechanic, now allowing player to make a jumping attack, which leads to mounting a monster.
The game received an expansion called Monster Hunter 4 G, which made it to the West as Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate.
