Nicolás Maduro Moros (born 23 November 1962) is a Venezuelan politician who was the 53rd president of Venezuela from 2013 to 2026, succeeding the late Hugo Chavez. Previously, he was the 24th vice president of Venezuela from 2012 to 2013, the minister of foreign affairs from 2006 to 2012, and the 3rd president of the National Assembly of Venezuela from 2005 to 2006.
Due to increasing tension between US President Donald Trump in 2025, where Trump accused Maduro of running Venezuela as a Narco state by flooding the US with illegal drugs, along with accusations of corruption (like running unfair elections in his country to allow his party majority rule in the government), and possible US interest in gaining Venezuelan Oil reserves, the US launched a midnight surprise attack in Venezuela on January 3, 2026 where US Army Special Forces Delta Force captured Maduro and his wife, as well carrying out multiple air strikes. This attack was heavily condemned by many nations, including America's allies like Britain and Italy, while also met with celebration from Venezuelans who migrated from the country. Currently transported to New York City in the US to face criminal charges.
