A collection of posts that shows the members of the main fleet of the Southern Force commanded by Vice Admiral Nishimura Shoji, earning the name Nishimura's Fleet. The Southern Force was part of the three-prong attack of Operation Sho-Go, Nishimura's Fleet participated in the Battle of Surigao Strait (part of the Battle of Leyte Gulf) on the night of October 24, 1944, the battle was one of the only two naval engagements in the Pacific where battleships fired at each other (the other was the Second Naval Battle of Guadalcanal).
