Otto Octavius (Doctor Octopus), close to death, manages to swap bodies with Peter Parker to survive. Otto is inspired by Peter's dying wish to have a new Spider-Man protect New York, and deems himself the "Superior Spider-Man".
Peter would eventually regain his body, but the popularity of the character and storyline would lead to various alternate realities where Otto remained Spider-Man. He is featured in the Spider-Verse Comics and makes cameo appearances in Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse
