    オニユリ 鬼百合

Lilium lancifolium, commonly called tiger lily, is a species of lily, family Liliaceae.

Like other lilies, tiger lily flowers are six-petaled and borne on an upright stem. The flowers tend to nod, with six petals bent backwards and six long stamens spread out. The showy flowers are bright orange with black or brown-red spots. There are also yellow and spotless varieties. The leaves are lanceolate (lance-shaped).

Its Japanese name is オニユリ (鬼百合 oni-yuri, lit. Oni lily). The curved back petals are associated with oni horns, and the bright orange color is associated with red oni.

The species Lilium columbianum is also sometimes called tiger lily, possibly disambiguated as "Columbian tiger lily". It is very similar, having the same spots and general form; the primary difference being that L. columbianum petals are usually more yellow than orange. L. lancifolium is native to China, Korea, Japan and eastern Russia, while L. columbianum is native to western North America ("Columbia" referring to the Canadian province of British Columbia, not the South American country).

Not to be confused with gloriosa, which has similar features, but unlike tiger lily, gloriosa petals are wavy and spotless.
