Tomboys tend to be the athletic or sporty type, dressing like a boy and keeping their hair short. Stereotypically they may have tanned skin and spiked hair. Examples include Kagura, Arisawa Tatsuki and Makoto.
Not to be confused with reverse trap, though there can be overlap between the two. A reverse trap is a girl with an androgynous or masculine appearance, regardless of personality. An androgynous girl may not necessarily act like a tomboy and a tomboy isn't required to look androgynous. Crossdressing does not automatically make a girl a tomboy either.
Just having short hair isn't enough to count as a tomboy. The girl has to act in a masculine manner.
