can pull tab

The ring-like metal opener attached to a portion of pre-scored section of the top of a drink can or food can used for pulling open the can. Pull tabs used to be common on drink cans, but have since been generally replaced by the stay-on tabs (SOT). Pull tabs remain common on food cans and other canned items such as air fresheners and tennis balls.
